PE, polyethylene

Polyethylene is the most used plastic in the world and it belongs to polyolefins together with polypropylene. PE is a soft-surfaced plastic which is easy to work on and it's very resistant to weather conditions. It is highly resistant to water, saline and dilute acids, but poorly to strong acids. At normal temperatures, PE is insoluble in any solvent and therefore typical applications for PE are industrial piping as well as tanks and basins for chemical solutions. Utility pipelines are also often made of polyethylene. PE does not self-extinguish.
